Campus Accommodation for 2017/18 – ACTION REQUIRED by Monday 20 February 2017

Got a question – chat with us online

Dear

Thank you for applying for a single campus accommodation for session 2017/18. Accommodation Services received an overwhelming number of applications by the deadline date. This resulted in room applications being oversubscribed and therefore allocations have been processed in accordance with the
University Accommodation Policy.

We are sorry to inform you that you have not been successful in the first wave of en suite allocations. We understand that you will be very disappointed at receiving this news. Demand for campus en suite accommodation has been high and will remain the most popular option for many students.

However we are pleased to be able to offer you a standard room on campus. Please be advised there is limited availability in standard accommodation, if you are interested to secure this please reply back with confirmation of your option by Monday 20 February.

Why have I not been offered a campus en suite room?

You have been unsuccessful as you were not selected in the en suite room ballot.

IMPORTANT - What should I do next?

Before we can process your application further please respond to this email with your chosen option no later than Monday 20 February 2017:

Option 1: I would like to secure a campus standard room - your current £350 booking fee will be used to secure this booking and you will be offered a provisional standard allocation immediately. Your details would not remain on the waiting list for an en suite room but you are able to add your details to the room exchange list should you wish to do so. Choosing this option will also allow you to subsequently submit a group application form to live with your friends who may have also taken up this standard option.

Option 2: I would like to remain on the waiting list for an en suite room - see below for more details on the waiting list process.

Option 3: Please remove me from the waiting list.

If we have not received a reply from you by midnight on Monday 20 February 2017 we will presume that you do not require campus accommodation. Your application would be cancelled and your £350 booking will be returned to you (subject to outstanding accommodation related charges).

When will my booking fee be refunded?

Should you select Option 2 or 3 the £350 booking fee will returned to you automatically (subject to outstanding accommodation related charges). The University Finance Office has advised the refund process will be processed by the end of March.  Your booking fee will be returned to you by cheque if you made your payments by cash or by cheque. If you paid by credit/debit card the refund will be returned to the card the payments were made from. If payment was made by Bank Transfer then the refund will be made to the same account. If a relative or friend has paid the money (except cash payments) to the Cash Office then the refund will be returned to the payee.

How does the waiting list work?

If you opt to remain on our waiting list, some applicants may be successful over the summer months in receiving an offer of a room following future cancellations. If Accommodation Services receives a number of cancellations then a ballot will be drawn. When the ballot for future cancellations is drawn successful applicants will be contacted by email, phone or text and asked to re-pay the £350 booking fee to secure the offer. Please keep sufficient funds aside to do this as a decision may be required quickly (usually within 24 hours). Further limited availability may not be known until after the recruitment of new students in September 2017.

How the waiting list works:

  • When we receive the next set of cancellations your details will be entered into a ballot, if your name is successfully selected you will be offered a room (preferences cannot be guaranteed)
  • Should you be offered a room in the future you will be asked to pay a booking fee of £350 to secure this booking
  • Unfortunately at this stage you will not be able to apply to live with your friends as part of a group. This is due to cancellations becoming available in various flats and complexes across the campus
  • We cannot guarantee to offer you accommodation for the start of session, therefore please consider your other options as early as possible.

We cannot enter a student into the ballot if they have outstanding accommodation related charges on their account with the University.

Save the Date – Wednesday 15 February 1-2pm  ‘Find a Home’ event

Brunel Managed houses (near to campus) - still available for session 2017/18!

Brunel Student Homes still has off-campus houses available for students for 2017/18.  We’re holding our Find a Home event on Wednesday 15 February between 1-2pm at the Accommodation Services conservatory located by the River Pinn, near to the Medical Centre.

If you already have a group to share with, we have houses available; if your friends have all been offered a room on-campus but you haven’t, don’t worry – lots of other students are in this situation and you can get together with them at Find a Home to rent one of our lovely houses.

Our properties are all managed by Brunel Student Homes (part of Brunel University London) – you pay only a £350 deposit, you pay your rent to Brunel and deal with us for repairs; international students don’t need guarantors and we won’t sting you for any extra fees (reference fee, admin fee, inventory fee) like local private lettings agents.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at Find a Home, but if you can’t be there just contact us by email or telephone +44 (0) 1895 266187 for more information.
