Provisional Allocation Confirmation 2015/16

Student ID
Session 2015/16

Dear

Thank you to the students who applied for single campus accommodation for session 2015/16. Accommodation Services received an overwhelming number of applications by the deadline date. This resulted in room applications being oversubscribed and therefore allocations have been processed in accordance with the University Accommodation Policy.

We are sorry to inform you that you have not been successful in the first wave of allocations. However your application has automatically been placed on the waiting list for campus accommodation for session 2015/16.

Why have I not been offered a campus room?

We understand that you will be very disappointed at receiving this news. Demand for campus accommodation has been high and will remain the most popular option for many students. You have been unsuccessful for 1 or more of the following reasons:

  1. The demand from higher priority groups has been so great that your year group (at this stage) cannot be offered campus accommodation
  2. You were unsuccessful in the Level 2 and below ballot
  3. You did not complete the application process by the deadline of Friday 30 January 2015 (e.g. non-payment of booking fee)
  4. You are a student with outstanding accommodation related finance owed to the University
  5. You are a part-time/continuation student or are not a fully enrolled student
  6. You have a serious Criminal Conviction that prevents you living in student accommodation.

When will my booking fee be refunded?

All unsuccessful applicants will automatically be refunded the £350 booking fee (subject to outstanding finance), including those who wish to remain on the waiting list. The University Finance Office has advised that these will take up to 30 working days to be returned. Your booking fee will be returned to you by cheque if you made your payments by cash or by cheque. If you paid by credit/debit card the refund will be returned to the card the payments were made from. If payment was made by Bank Transfer then the refund will be made to the same account. If a relative or friend has paid the money (except cash payments) to the Cash Office then the refund will be returned to the payee.

Waiting list for campus accommodation

Your details have automatically been placed on the campus accommodation waiting list for session 2015/16. If you remain on our waiting list, some applicants may be successful in the coming months in receiving an offer of a room following future cancellations. If Accommodation Services receives a number of cancellations then a ballot will be drawn. When the ballot for future cancellations is drawn successful applicants will be contacted by email, phone or text and asked to re-pay the £350 booking fee to secure the offer. Please keep sufficient funds aside to do this as a decision may be required quickly (usually within 24 hours). Further limited availability may not be known until after the recruitment of new students in September 2015.

How the waiting list works:

  • When we receive the next set of cancellations your details will be entered into a ballot, if your name is successfully selected you will be offered a room (preferences cannot be guaranteed)
  • Should you be offered a room in the future you will be asked to pay a booking fee of £350 to secure this booking
  • Unfortunately at this stage you will not be able to apply to live with your friends as part of a group. This is due to cancellations becoming available in various flats and complexes across the campus
  • We cannot guarantee to offer you accommodation for the start of session, therefore please consider your other options as early as possible.

Off-campus accommodation

The Brunel Student Homes Office (off-campus Housing Office) has other options for you to consider if you wish to secure a room in local off campus housing before the start of the session. Brunel Student Homes is located opposite the Medical Centre and is aware that a number of students will be contacting them to help secure local accommodation. They can be contacted by email by telephone on +44 (0) 1895 266187.

There is also a Housing Fayre on Monday 16 February 2015, in the Atrium at Hamilton Centre from 5pm-7pm which offers not just services from Brunel Student Homes but also a range of UBS approved local letting agents. If you are on your own, you can also register to find others with whom you may be able to share with.

Cancelling your application

If you no longer wish to remain on the waiting list you can submit a cancellation request form online.
